Host Your Own Tasting Party

Good food, good weed, and good friends–in our mind, this is the stuff of life. When the three are combined thoughtfully, with complimentary curation of flavors, terpenes, and ambiance? Oof. Heaven. Pure heaven. However, there is an art to mixing friends with different tolerances and creating something more special than another sesh with snacks. The good news is you don’t have to be a five star edible chef to curate a cannabis-centric soiree that leaves people satisfied and more savvy about the plant.

A Cannabis Tasting Party brings people together in a casual way, allowing people to move at their own pace as they experience different strains. It also sparks conversation amongst guests, inviting people to share their thoughts and find common threads between puffs. Of course, a little preparation and vibe curation an go a long way. With the help of @lauraliciav, who recently hosted a Miss Grass Tasting Party, we created this guide to hosting a Tasting Party of your own.

Pick A Theme

This isn’t so much a dress code (although it can be!), but more of a tone to aim for. Is this a celebration? More of an intellectual Parisian salon hang? Picking the tone for the party will help you make decisions about the rest of the elements.

Make A Playlist

Set the mood for the night with a playlist that works with your theme. For her recent Tasting Party, Laura picked songs that were calming, fun, and easy to listen to in the background. “Music that was ~just enough~ to keep guests engaged but not distracted.” [Listen to her Spotify playlist here].

Ideate The Mood

To brainstorm the ambiance, Laura set up a Pinterest board of inspo and an album on her phone of screenshots that embodied the feel she wanted to go for.

Craft Your Food Menu

Knowing your audience is big here. Keep in mind any dietary restrictions and allergies. Laura kept things simple with vegetarian pizzas, vegan salad, vegan sliders, veggies, dips, and donuts for something sweet. Don’t forget a range of non-infused beverages to quench cottonmouth!

Craft Your Flower Menu

If you’re sticking to smokables, it’d great to offer at least three strains with different terpenes. Since a tasting is about sampling small amounts, this doesn’t have to be a huge quantity. If you want to incorporate edibles/infused beverages, look for nano cannabis infusions. Those products have a faster onset so people actually feel the effects before the party’s over.

Account For All Tolerances

Don’t forget about those with way lower tolerances. It isn’t a bad idea to offer at least one low dose/low THC hemp strain, and make sure you’ve got a private, zen area off to the side if anyone gets too high and needs a space to chill out.

Set The Space

Use this excuse to visit your local thrift store to source fun dinnerware. “I found the most incredible (and unique) glasses, vases, and dishes at a really great price,” says Laura.

Be Flexible

Have fun, be open, and let the party flow as it will.
