Wake + Bake: Cynthia Rowley's Cannabis-Infused Morning Routine

Not many veteran designers are known for their millennial relevance or continued boundary-pushing, but Cynthia Rowley is not like many designers.

The CFDA Award-winning fashion darling is constantly evolving as her clientele does. The result is an eponymous label full of fresh takes on constant classics—one just as likely to launch a zodiac yoga mat, a gold flask that’s worn as a bracelet, or namesake rolling papers.

Yes, the 60-year-old native New Yorker (and frequent surfer) is 4/20 friendly, but what of it? Her joint rolling days may be are behind her, as she tells Miss Grass, but her love of CBD is blossoming into an all-out lifestyle.

That’s why we picked Rowley’s brain to find out how she’s incorporating cannabis’ most famous non-psychoactive compound into her morning routine. Because you know what they say about mornings; they set the tone for your whole day.

Cynthia Rowley Interview

How did you and cannabis meet, and what’s your relationship like today?

Well, like all teenagers, it started in high school and when I turned 21 I decided rosé and tequila were more my vice vibe. Now I’m a strictly-CBD girl but my fashion label still makes rolling papers just for fun. CBD helps me sleep and after a good surf, it makes for a nice chill moment.

What time do you wake up and what’s the first thing you do?

I wake up super early, take my dog Ziggy on a walk and make some coffee, have a quick workout, and then listen to some stand up comedy while I shower and get ready for work. Sometimes I take my daughter, Gigi, to school. I always ride a Citibike to work.

What does your daily CBD routine look like?

I keep a tincture and a notepad on my nightstand so when I have those middle of the night freak-outs, thinking about everything I have to do the next day or (on a more positive note) when I get inspiration, it helps me get back to sleep rather than staring at the ceiling or going on social media for another hour.

First product you reach for?

I’m a fan of Lord Jones. I love their drops. I also bought my dad some Lord Jones CBD lotion and it’s helped his aches and pains.

CBD skincare hack?
I’ve been using a great CBD face cream and, while it doesn’t replace Botox for me, I feel like it does relax some of the lines.

Song that *actually* gets you up?

Cha Cha” by DRAM. It makes me happy happy happy!

Morning self-care ritual?

100 sit ups, stationary bike for 15 minutes, and a swim with my waterproof nano if I’m feeling ambitious.

Favorite thing to eat in the AM?

Hard-boiled eggs. It’s the most efficient protein delivery system.

Everyday comfy outfit?

On the weekend, ripped jeans or cut offs, a ratty tee, a bucket hat, and slides.

Vape, tincture, topical, edible or flower?

Tinctures and topicals. Tinctures because they’re fast-acting. Topicals because I’m using lotions and creams anyway, so why not have the added benefit of CBD?

Tell us about the products that keep you going all day long?

Hora Overnight Exfoliating Mask and Mineral's Sleep oil. I’ve never been good at sleeping through the night and these give me everything I need for a good night’s rest. It’s really changed my life.
